In Portugal, each hospital bed generates an average of 16 kilos a day; a volume of waste that has been growing, and has important financial and environmental consequences. To minimise this impact, the Instituto de Ciência da Saúde (Health Sciences Institute) and the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (Biotechnology Higher Education School) of Católica do Porto University are promoting training in the sustainability area: "Waste Reduction in Hospitals".
